Meet the team

Malcolm Gallagher, Managing Director

Malcolm is Plan Safe’s founder. Nurtured by challenging and high-reliability organisations, he is a highly-skilled project manager and safety-change leader driven by innovation. More broadly, his experience encompasses communication strategy, project team leadership, workshop facilitation, safety assurance, technical documentation production and the creation of multi-platform training packages. He has worked both in-house and in consultant capacities and his industry experience spans transport, aviation, infrastructure and communications.

Peter Duffy, Director - Aerospace and Defence

Peter is a versatile leadership and management professional with over 30 years significant experience in systems engineering, safety management systems, project management, and maintenance management within medium to large organisations. Peter is a Certified Practicing Engineer in the Leadership and Management, Aerospace, and Systems Engineering areas of practice. His experience ranges across the marine and aerospace domains, including air traffic management, and he has held engineering and maintenance authority within various technical regulatory environments.

Andrew Horton, Operations Manager - Rail

Andrew leads the Plan Safe Rail Team across Australia. He has extensive rail experience, having held key positions in the introduction of rollingstock projects in Sydney and Melbourne. He has a mechanical engineering background and has held project management and leadership positions in the rail, marine, defence and heavy-manufacturing sectors. As a lean specialist, he is regularly engaged to drive change, safety and productivity improvements for products, services, facilities and operations.

Florian Massol, Principal Safety Engineer

Florian is an aerospace engineer with more than 12 years’ experience in program management, systems engineering and safety assurance. He has extensive experience in the space sector, working for 5 years as the Principal Safety Engineer in the European Space Agency, also leading the development of Australia’s Eris rocket and Ariane 5 Ground Support Equipment. Developing strong expertise in aerospace regulation and standards and their application to design and operations.

Elisa Redondo de la Mata, Principal Safety Engineer

Elisa is a qualified Aerospace Engineer with an extensive background in aviation safety, including Airport Safety Management and Air Traffic Management. Her career has been based on technical safety, SMS implementation and risk management. She holds a BSc Aerospace Engineering (Air Navigation and Aerospace systems), MSc in Industrial Management from the Technical University of Madrid, Spain; and a MSc in Aerospace Engineering (Erasmus+) from the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL).

Craig King, Principal Safety Consultant

Craig is an Air Traffic Management specialist with over 30-years of experience operating in the UK and internationally in both airfield and airspace management and development. Currently Airspace Modernisation Lead for the UK Civil Aviation Authority operating in both national and international arenas in all areas of airspace modernisation.

Mira Kartikasari, Principal Safety Engineer

Mira holds a Bachelor of Engineering and has over 15 years’ experience in the rail industry and has delivered Safety Assurance and Independent Safety Review/ Assessment for rail projects (conventional and driverless metro systems, suburban and freight rail) in Australia and overseas.

Simon Jackson, Principal Safety Engineer

Simon is a qualified physicist and practicing Chartered Engineer, with a focus on safety and risk. He’s worked for 13 years within safety-related industries, including the Civil Nuclear, Defence Nuclear, Air Traffic Management, Rail (Heavy-haul and Light Rail), mining and oil and gas industries. His experience includes working as a project safety manager for Airservices Australia and NATS UK, implementing radar, ADS-B and WAM technologies.

Hasti Hayati, Systems and Safety Engineer

Hasti is a Systems and Mechanical Engineer with more than 6 years experience in applied research, scientific and engineering methods, and industry consulting including: Systems Eng. (SE) Activities, Project Management, Vibration & Acoustic, Data Mining & Machine Learning, Testing & Evaluation, CAD/CAM and FEM.

Daniel Garzaniti, Senior Systems and Safety Engineer

Daniel is a qualified Electrical Engineer (Telecommunications) and Certified Systems Engineering Professional with extensive experience in the Defence, Transport, and Pharmaceutical industries. Daniel has led various Systems Engineering and Systems Safety Assurance functions such as Verification & Validation, Requirements Management, Hazard analysis, and utilisation and administration of SE tools.

Russell Higgins, Principal Human Factors Consultant

Russell is an experienced Human Factors Consultant and people manager with a demonstrated history of working in the aviation and railroad industry. His skills include System Safety, Human Factors, Aircraft Systems and Performance, Quality Assurance, Training and Auditing. Russell has 35 years’ experience in aviation including various operational and HF positions and holds a master’s in aviation management focused in Human Factors from Swinburne University of Technology.

Jamie Barton, Principal Human Factors Consultant

Jamie is a versatile human factors specialist with experience across a range of high hazard industries. His background in industrial design and engineering enables him to work closely with other engineering disciplines, gaining an in-depth understanding of complex systems and ensuring the usability, safety, and efficiency of designs.

Rob Weaver, Principal Safety Consultant

Rob has extensive experience in aviation safety, including 4 years as Head of Safety for Australian Air Traffic Control and Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting. He is a former Chair of the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO) Asia Pacific Safety Workgroup and member of CANSO Global Safety Steering Committee.

Rob holds a PhD in Safety Critical Systems and a Masters of Engineering in Computer Systems and Software Engineering both from the University of York, UK.

Wing Cheng, Safety Consultant

Wing is an experienced Systems and Safety Assurance Professional and is degree qualified with a Bachelor of Construction Project Management. She has 4 years’ experience working on the delivery of major transport infrastructure and built environment projects on both the client side and contractor side.

Jules Stopp, Engagement and Communications

A highly accomplished engagement professional, Jules delivers intervention and communication programs to engage stakeholders in productive dialogue, retain customers and empower staff. Jules brings a unique and powerful skill set to the Plan Safe team that enables our clients to better connect with their audience for outcomes that matter.
